Dr. Yasmine
Heater MD
Dr. Heater is very excited about her
collaboration with Lymflo Therapies.
She completed her Internal Medicine
training at Akron City Hospital in
Akron, Ohio. Her Lymphedema Mentor
was Dr. Chester Plotkin who is director
of the Lymphedema Center at University
Hospitals in Cleveland, Ohio-this
was one of the first programs in the
country.
Dr. Heater developed an interest in
Lymphedema while working in the Division
of Radiation Oncology in Akron. When
the hospital initiated a Lymphedema
Program to serve its patients, they
asked her to become its Medical Director.
The program was large with multiple
Physical Therapists, PTAs, Occupational
Therapists and OTAs. The program progressed
such that both inpatient consultation
and management as well as outpatient
consultation and ongoing therapy was
performed. The Lymphedema Program
was also involved with postoperative
joint inpatient management and the
wound care center. The program had
a large monthly support group and
was fortunate to have an onsite unused
dormitory where patients could come
from far distances and reside as daily
therapy was performed.
As an Internist, Dr. Heater has a
solo private practice in Nashville,
NC. Her special medicine interests,
in addition to lymphedema, include:
sleep disorders, hypertension, diabetes
and lipid disorders.
Though she never had the opportunity
to meet Lymflo's former physician
consultant, Dr. Carol Kirschenbaum,
Dr. Heater shares the same philosophy
and looks forward to carrying on her
passion and commitment to the patients.
